Cast all your anxiety on him, for he cares for you.
Anxiety loves to burden. Its main purpose is to weigh down its victim.
That is one of the reasons I love this verse, because casting feels like the opposite of being weighed down. Casting frees up. Casting unburdens.
I think of being able to just heap every bit of fear, shame, guilt, and exhaustion onto Jesus and leave it there.
Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.
God cares about us in a way that invites rest. He does it in Sabbath, right at the start of forming his people, reminding them that Egypt does not own them. And he creates Sabbath in our weary, burdened, anxious hearts by being One on whom we can heave all our burdens.
